Down with you NEA

After 4 days of trip powered by generator, I had forgotten that load shedding exists. Today’s load-shedding time was till 7 PM and I was hoping there would be power so that when I reach home I could read some emails or flirt with some people (alright later one is untrue). But there was no power. My mom said that power came and went twice. Finally it came back and I opened the browser, typed www.gmail.com and then again it went pop. No it hasn’t come back. My nephew came to me asking for telephone no. of Nepal Electricity Authority. When I asked for the reason he replied, “to scold them. They were supposed to give us power. Look over there, there in the tower like Eifel (he was referring to broadlink’s tower) there is always power. And we don’t have it. We need to scold them”.

I agree with him, totally. NEA you suck, you are embroiled in corruption and everyone knows it. Irony no one does anything to you.

I hear my sister cursing NEA, “At least give power when it’s our time to get power. What are you doing, just want to kill you” and my mom is saying, “it’s just like living at village, who says we live in Kathmandu, the capital”.

Update: Now lights have come but the voltage is really really low. wtf, i don’t know!

When you hear how system works in Nepal, your reaction would: Really, amazing!

I got chane to talk with a person who is involved everywhere and when i mean everywhere, i really mean it. He is a journalist, HR activits, NGO activist, consumer’s right activist, political activist and god knows what. Even he admits he is involved in 22 different organization: 22 can you believe it?

We were talking about how things work in Bara, he candidly told me one surprising story. Since he is also involved in consumer’s right, they raided various traders to test quality of products. Quality controller, local consumer right’s activitis and traders have made mutual agreement that the products will have imprint date of manufacturing date. But there will be stikcer with new dispacting date as manufacturing date while dispacting products to the market. They come up with this idea so that products could be sold in market easily and evade legal hassles if caught red handed. All of them, including government and consumer rights activits, were more concerned about traders than consumers itself and it’s surprising. Bad, Dabur used same techniques but still found itself in hot water with their real juice. Remember the fiasco?

When there’s some hassles with the quality of products, bucks (depending on people involved) would do it’s magic. Everyone gets their share and be happy: and we consumers would be the unhealthy and unhappy folks.

No wonder why we are one of the coolest people in the world as mentioned by CNN. Such practice go unchecked but still we are  happy and enjoying those products.

Travelling to Birgunj: Few experiences

2

Restaurant at our Domestic airport has interesting menu. I had never seen a restaurant (of course in Nepal) with a menu that has price in paisas. We have stopped using denominations in paisas and no one puts their price at paisas especially restaurants. I paid Rs. 128.76 and also 13% VAT and 10% service charge for 50 Rs. 500 ml  pet coke. See yourself if you don’t believe such thig do exist, have look yourself.

Menu of restaurant at domestic airport of Kathmandu

Another interesting this also happened at Airport. For the first time while purchasing Airport tax, i was refunded 50 paisas. Airport tax is Rs. 169.50 but they always took Rs. 170. Don’t know what happened today, the guy at counter returned back my 50 paisas (2 coins of 25 paisas each), the one with King Birendra’s name on it. I don’t know why but I became happy :)

Our flight was supposed to be at 12.30 PM but they didn’t make any announcement though it was 12.50 PM. I asked the ground crew of Buddha Air inquiring about the flight time and i got shocking answer, The ground crew curtly told me that the flight isn’t at 12.30 but at 1.20 PM. I was aghast at her response. Okay, we waited till 1.30 but again no formal announcement was made. So we went to have coke and came back at 3 and suddenly they were saying it’s flight time, flight time. Still there was no formal announcement. Few girls were furious at airlines saying they are worse and they should have boarded bus rather than plane. Buddha air, please make announcement. Are you listening?

Finally we landed at Simara airport and straightly headed to Amalekhgunj, a place at Bara district to attend a cultural program. The program was organized to raise awareness on Democracy and Human Rights. Intense lok dohori was going on. The girls were giving tough competition to boys. Finally boys won the competition by mere 0.5 points (as declared by judging committee). Few pictures of the event. (I will keep posting as my days pass on :) )

Goodbye 2010. Hello 2011

This post is 20 days late but still gave me reason to think back.

  • I thought I would be blogging a lot but the plan got lost somewhere I presume.
  • I thought I would be travelling a lot: Thanks to my work, I have managed to do some. (Could I had afford all on my own? I love my work :D )
  • I thought I would be fit and healthy: But who would fund me for my gym and also who would  stand by to push me to do it? Buhuuuu :P
  • I thought I would be regular at college and do all the assignment: but who would wake me up early in the morning?

But still I hope:

  • to join the club and at least get flat belly :P (6 packs is too much to ask for :>)
  • to sincerely go to college and get good marks. (oh boy, oh boy)
  • save some money so i could treat myself (like Bryan Adam’s concert or some international trip won’t be bad idea :P )
  • get control of my life :)

Yes, I could be so superficial :D
