The reader and The Curious case of Benjamin…: My verdicts
Recently I watched two movies that are front runner in OSCARS for various categories. The Reader and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I know, I haven’t seen Slumdog Millionaire yet. But still am ready with the reviews of two movies I have seen.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
As title of film, it’s very curious movie with extraordinary story. Adapted from 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald with same title, the movie tells story of a man who starts aging backwards instead of aging forward. Made alive with the maximum use of technologies, the movie tells the love story of Benjamin and Daisy (Cate Blanchett). Aided with great performance by both lead actors, this movie would surely haul some Oscars. (If there’s no Slumdog, it might have become the very strong contender for top honor).
My verdict: Go watch it. It’s an epic fantasy tale with rich storytelling backed by fantastic performances.
The Reader
If Kate Winslet didn’t win Oscars this time, Oscars would be making a big mistake but not recognizing her talent. This movie is all about her performance. Set in post world war Germany, this movie tells the love story of 15 years old Michale and his double age Hana. Unlike many dramas, this story revolves around perpetrator instead of victim.
People safeguard their secrets but there’s price to pay. And this movie shows how far people can go to guard their secret and are ready to pay every prices.
My verdict: This movie is all about Kate Winslet. Watch it for her Oscar-nod performance.
love the reviews, rabin! i totally can’t wait to watch the reader. did you see revolutionary road with kate winslet and leonardo di caprio?? not the best movie, but her acting was also great in it.
also… you remind me of a movie-buff friend at home! keep watching movies and letting me know which ones to sit down and watch!
oh! and… I forgot to say that I, too, enjoyed Benjamin Button. I didn’t think I would, but I was very surprised in Brad Pitt’s acting. I think I liked him as an old man the best… such cute, tiny little man. Do you think we really do shrink when we’re old??
hehe yeah he’s done very good acting. And i don’t think Julie, Man would start to shrink like Brad. hehe He was too small. I think only he would shrink like that coz he was born at that age remember?? If he didn’t shrink to be small enough like a baby, then he wouldn’t have born hehe. But the reality is just opposite
